rPET Price Trend: Understanding the Market Movement in Q1 2026

The recycled plastics market continued to experience changing conditions during the first quarter of 2026, with different regions following different price directions. While some countries saw prices moving upward because of stronger demand and tighter raw material availability, others experienced weaker market conditions due to slower buying activity. Overall, the rPET Price Trend reflected how regional supply, recycling rates, and demand from packaging and textile industries shaped the market during the quarter.

One of the biggest reasons behind these mixed market conditions was the availability of used PET bottles. Recycled PET products depend on collecting post-consumer plastic bottles, and collection rates varied from one country to another. In regions where bottle collection slowed or scrap became less available, recyclers faced higher production costs and limited supply. On the other hand, countries with healthy collection systems had enough raw material to keep production running smoothly, which reduced pressure on prices.

Demand also played a very important role. Food and beverage packaging companies continued to use recycled materials as they worked toward sustainability goals. At the same time, textile manufacturers and industrial users adjusted their purchasing based on production needs and overall economic conditions. In some regions, buyers increased orders to secure future supply, while in others they purchased only the quantities needed for immediate production.

Another factor affecting the market was the relationship between virgin PET and recycled PET. When virgin plastic became less expensive, some manufacturers preferred using new material because it lowered production costs. However, in regions where virgin material remained expensive, recycled PET became a more attractive option. This changing balance influenced purchasing decisions throughout the quarter and created different price movements across global markets.

India experienced one of the stronger markets during Q1 2026. Demand from food-grade packaging and beverage manufacturers remained healthy, while the supply of collected PET bottles became tighter due to seasonal collection challenges. This combination encouraged buyers to compete for available recycled material. The growing interest in sustainable packaging also supported demand, allowing the market to remain firm throughout the quarter. By March, additional buying activity and limited scrap availability pushed prices even higher.

The United States followed a different path. Demand from packaging and textile industries remained weaker than expected, while collection rates improved, increasing the availability of recyclable material. With more feedstock entering recycling facilities and lower virgin PET prices reducing the appeal of recycled alternatives, buyers became cautious with purchasing. This created downward pressure on the market and resulted in softer pricing conditions during the quarter.

Germany also experienced weaker market performance. Improved collection systems provided recyclers with sufficient raw material, but demand from major industries remained below expectations. High inventory levels further reduced the need for immediate purchases, and competitive pricing from virgin PET added extra pressure. Although there was a small recovery in March due to short-term restocking, the overall quarter remained relatively soft compared to many Asian markets.

Saudi Arabia recorded moderate price growth during the first quarter. Recycling infrastructure remained more limited than in several developed regions, which reduced the availability of recycled feedstock. At the same time, demand from packaging companies and export markets continued to improve. Rising virgin PET values also encouraged greater interest in recycled material, helping the market maintain steady upward momentum throughout the quarter.

China presented a more balanced market. Collection rates remained stable, providing enough feedstock for recycling operations. Demand from packaging and fiber industries improved gradually but was not strong enough to create major price increases during most of the quarter. As a result, prices remained fairly steady before strengthening slightly in March when tighter scrap availability and better buying interest supported the market.

Thailand also showed stable conditions during Q1 2026. Collection systems continued to provide sufficient recyclable material, while export demand remained moderate. Buyers maintained regular purchasing activity without creating significant supply pressure. Market conditions remained balanced for most of the quarter before stronger export demand and tighter scrap supply supported a moderate increase during March.

Indonesia experienced a similar situation. Stable collection rates ensured adequate feedstock for recyclers, while demand from packaging and textile industries remained consistent. These balanced conditions kept prices relatively unchanged for most of the quarter. However, toward the end of March, improving demand together with lower scrap availability encouraged a noticeable upward movement as buyers increased procurement.

Sustainability continued to influence the recycled plastics market around the world. Many governments and manufacturers remain committed to increasing the use of recycled materials to reduce plastic waste and lower environmental impact. Although these long-term goals continue to support recycled PET consumption, short-term purchasing decisions are still influenced by raw material availability, production costs, and the price difference between recycled and virgin plastics.

Looking ahead, the market is expected to remain sensitive to scrap collection rates, recycling capacity, and changes in packaging demand. If recycling feedstock becomes tighter while sustainability requirements continue to grow, recycled PET could receive stronger support in many regions. On the other hand, abundant scrap supplies or weaker industrial demand may limit future price increases. Overall, rPET Prices are likely to continue responding to regional supply conditions, environmental policies, and changing demand from packaging, textile, and consumer goods industries throughout the coming months.
